Wine Time: A Glass for Every Occasion

You wouldn’t wear a winter jacket in the summertime, so why would you drink a chilled glass of riesling in the dead of winter? With each season and event comes a different wine to suit the occasion. Cork Bar & Restaurant is here to share some of our favorites.

Spring & Summer Sips

When the weather warms up, it’s time to find the right wine to help cool you down. Wines that are light or medium-bodied are best for this time of year, as they leave you feeling refreshed. Some of our personal favorites are:

  • Pinot Grigio
  • Sauvignon Blanc
  • Rosé

Pinot Grigio is a semi-sweet white wine that comes with high acidity and powerful flavors. This type of wine is perfect for elegant events such as spring bridal showers and summer weddings, or simple get-togethers such as the family surf and turf dinner at the beach. Sauvignon Blanc, a dry white wine, is a little less acidic and can be enjoyed while enjoying various meats and cheeses, perhaps at your friend’s housewarming party where there’s sure to be a heavenly charcuterie board. Lastly, rosé is the perfect pink drink for a Sunday brunch. With sweet hints of berries, each sip will pair perfectly with your meal, whether it be sweet like a tart or salty like a lox bagel.

Fall & Winter Wines

When the weather cools down, the wine heats up. No, not in temperatures but in flavor. Full-bodied wines will keep you warm all season long. Some of the most popular fall and winter wines are:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Chardonnay
  • Champagne

A deep red wine, Cabernet Sauvignon is a dry wine known worldwide for its full and deep body. A glass of this is perfect for listening to Christmas carols by the fireplace with your family. Chardonnay is another dry wine; however, it is a white wine that often comes with an oaky flavor, bringing a nice spice to keep you warm during a fall wine festival or holiday wine tasting event. Lastly, we have a holiday favorite: champagne. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and especially New Year’s Eve are not complete without this sparkling wine. White in color, it can come in many different sweetnesses, allowing it to be a hit at nearly any event. Cheers!
